painting from Bartolo, one of Peru's up-and-coming artists. The
spirited woman in the painting races
ahead of the hands that reach for her. Waves of color flow across
the canvas like an undulating rainbow. "This theme strives to share
a fantasy that at some moment went through someone's mind," says
Andean artist Bartolo. The man represented by the grasping hands
"is an ordinary person who wants to reach his ideal love. That kind
of hope is always alive, symbolized in the scarf the woman lets
